Our Giving Back ethos is based on achieving sustainable, long term effects and giving a hand-up rather than a hand out.
Our business values are rooted in individuality and the story of the pieces we create, so that each design means something to the wearer.
With these values in mind, and in striving to find innovative ways to create our designs, we’ve discovered that by combining the skills of our partners worldwide, we have an opportunity to connect isolated communities.
Our weavers in Myanmar use Lotus, Silk and Cotton almost exclusively and we combine these materials with them to create different designs. In order to extend this creativity, we have recently taken our precious Lotus yarn to the weavers in Nepal (a strategic challenge in itself!).
By employing the skills of the weavers and the variety of looms that we have available in Nepal, to mix the Lotus yarn with some of the other beautiful materials we use there, we have an amazing opportunity to develop new fabrics and truly unique pieces. And, in doing so, we are connecting communities of Artisans through their shared skills of production of yarn and hand weaving.
Further collaborations extend to us working with a family run business of embroiderers in Kashmir. Their exquisite work takes days to produce and is so skilled; it is commissioned by museums worldwide. Our beautiful hand-woven scarves go to Kashmir to be embellished with embroidery designed by Katherine Maunder of Thread Tales Co, and made real by these incredible Artisans, so creating a three-way collaboration and mutual respect between specialists. Our shared values of Giving Back to the planet and working ethically also extend across the boundaries through these partnerships, since we apply the same principles to all.
In this way, we create thoughtful partnerships, connecting remote communities, generating a sole sense of purpose and enterprise and creating opportunities beyond their familiar environment.
