A Letter from The Maker
I would like to share this beautiful letter we received from our friend from the Inle Lakes in Myanmar, Nae Win.
Without Nae Win, access to the high-quality Lotus we use for our special pieces would have been so much harder- maybe impossible. We were introduced to Nae Win by the travel company that took care of Mum when she first went to Myanmar to do her charity work. He supported Katherine as her interpreter in Myanmar, as she began making her first enquires into obtaining Lotus for the Thread Tales brand and was the connecting thread in introducing her to the community of hand weavers, Nae Win has been our friend and supporter ever since and we owe him so much.
This letter made my heart both ache and sing when I read it this morning. So much adversity and yet so much positivity and ingenuity. We know Nae Win well for his incredible attention to detail and it seems his lovely wife, Moe Moe has this too. She has worked to our exacting detail, skilfully producing our face masks.
We are incredibly proud to present them to you. And incredibly grateful to you for your support. This means more than a mask to Nae Win and his family. This work is currently his lifeline and is giving his family a reason to feel valued. Thankyou.
A letter from Nay Win.

Firstly. we would love to say thanks to you for giving us a chance to have a job during this bad situation because of Corona virus Covid 19.
Secondly. I would like to introduce my family. We have two children. One is a girl (10 years), one is boy (1 years and two months). We live together with my parents,
so we are a family of 6 people, with me.
I used to work as a Tourist Guide. My wife is a tailor. We married in 26.6.2008.
We have tried to build our family life to be better and better by using both our incomes carefully.
I had good income from busy guiding with International tourists from 2014 to 2016. These years made us happy.
But in 2017 and 2018 we had far less tourists.
We hoped that it would be a good year again for us in 2019 and 2020. We in the tourist industry are ready for work. But unfortunately, we now have Covid19. When WHO announced this pandemic all the tourists cancelled their reservations. We had no job immediately.
All the people from the Tourism field are looking for jobs to cover their family incomes in different ways. We do not know exactly when the tourists will visit, and we will be busy as before again. We made our decision to save our money and not to buy any unnecessary things during this situation.
All the religious ceremonies, wedding receptions, and local parties are not allowed during this time - no crowds of people. Because of that no one needs new dresses. My wife has no job as well.
I started to think what I should do now.
My wife began making masks for the family, relatives and gave them to neighbours to prevent spread of Corona virus.
One day, Katherine from Thread Tales connect to me and asked me what I was doing. I said I am not doing anything, but my wife is making masks.
Finally, Katherine gave us job to make mask and we were so happy to work with her. It helps and makes our family better during this time.
We have income from doing handmade mask for Thread Tales. Thanks for that.
This work is not only to get money but also feeling good by helping people stop the virus by wearing masks.
Best Wishes and kind regards,
Nay Win, Moe Moe, Family
